There are numerous carving clubs, shows and competitions throughout Canada and the United States. This page will highlight some of them. The AWCA encourages our members to participate in these events as the critiques offer help a carver gain knowledge and improve their work.

Country Haven Carving Studio is located west of Edmonton. The studio can accommodate 11 students and an instructor. The goal is to promote carving, and improve the carving skill of the individual, by providing courses with, expert instructors from across Canada.
All classes and workshops held at Country Haven Studio are part of AWCA and a membership is required.

Here is a listing of some of the regional, national and international carving shows and competitions

April
The show has grown to be one of Canada’s best known wildlife woodcarving competitions and has been featured in Wildfowl Carving Magazine’s “Competition” publication for several years. In recent years, the show has been expanded to include a woodturning competition as well as including many commercial booths featuring the Island’s top wildlife artists. The show attracts many popular BC wildlife artists, photographers and sculptors as well as giving talented carvers and turners from across the Pacific Northwest and Canada a venue to display their work and compete among each other for ribbons and cash prizes.

Today, Prairie Canada’s goal is to support and promote our love of carving and appreciation of wildlife through our annual Show and Competition. Over the years, our competition has grown to showcase a variety of carvings of wildlife (waterfowl, song and shorebirds, decoys)

April
The World Championship is an international event where carvers, collectors, and visitors convene at the end of each April in Ocean City, MD. From highly decorative works of art to functional hunting decoys, about 1,200 different wildfowl carvings representing more than 150 species from around the world can be viewed at the premiere, the most prestigious competition in the world.

The Canadian National Wildfowl Championship and Wood Art Competition is an annual event held in Waterloo Ontario. The Grand Valley Woodcarvers organize this event with the help of many volunteers. Tri-County Carving Club manages the Wood Art side of the show.

Our show showcases hand carved, textured, and painted wood sculptures encompassing birds, fish, mammals, Native American art, caricatures, and various other carved wood art forms across twenty competitive divisions. Witness the judging of wildlife and other carvings in the main auditorium, and marvel at the decoys displayed in the water tank. Take advantage of our free seminars and demonstrations featuring World Champions and notable carvers, aimed at expanding your carving knowledge.
