AWCA Workshops are focused on skill development and lead by accomplished carvers.
The AWCA presents a series of workshops that range from a few hours in duration to weeklong intensive workshops. The shorter workshops are intended for members who want to learn or brush up on specific skills such as painting with an airbrush, texturing and use of wood burning tools, or creating habitat for the project.
Longer workshop are lead by world class carvers. Over the years we have been fortunate to have instructors such as Ted Trusz, the late Bob Guge, Pat Godin, Jeff Krete, Jean Minaudier, Byron Crabb and Dennis Drescher. These advanced workshops are focused on advanced skill development. Although members are given preference, these intense workshops are open to non-member carvers as well.
Generally speaking, workshops are a benefit of membership in the AWCA. As a result members are given priority, however if space is available, others may register and participate.
Shorter workshops ie, part day or day long workshops are scheduled periodically throughout the year. The subject matter is based on observations by the instructors, or a specific skillset needed by carvers for a class. As an example a workshop may be held to help carvers learn more about the use of a wood burner. Longer workshops (weeklong) are planned well in advance. They are designed to provide carvers with the opportunity to learn from highly skilled wildlife carvers.
Yes. The AWCA tries to provide these workshops on a break-even basis. Fees are used to cover material cost, sometimes venue rental fees, as well as compensating the instructors.
The workshops are usually held where our regular classes are held. That is Amiskwaciy Academy or Country Haven Studio. We may also use other venues if the need arises.
Yes. The AWCA encourages learning and skill development. Workshops are designed to help carvers learn or practice specific skills that will help them carve or paint their project in a more effective way.
